Plano Humano is pleased to announce that its Sobreiro Residences project has been distinguished with the Category Winner 2026 award, in the Concept Design — Residential Concept category, by the LOOP Design Awards.
This distinction recognizes a residential proposal that transforms a previously abandoned and underused area into a new residential development, seeking to establish a balanced relationship between architecture, landscape, and public space. Located on the southern slope of the valley that defines the northern boundary of Mafra, the project comprises three multifamily residential buildings and nine single-family houses, adapted to the natural topography of the site.
The positioning of the buildings takes advantage of the slope, prioritizing integration with the landscape, privacy, solar exposure, and views over the valley and the Atlantic Ocean. Balconies, terraces, patios, and outdoor spaces play a central role in the proposal, extending the interior spaces and strengthening the everyday relationship between housing and nature.
Materiality also contributes to the identity of the development through the combination of concrete and three-dimensional ceramic cladding in different shades of green, directly referencing the surrounding landscape. The use of ventilated façades simultaneously contributes to thermal performance, moisture control, and the durability of the buildings.
This recognition represents the collective effort of our team and reinforces Plano Humano’s commitment to contemporary and conscious architecture, capable of regenerating territories, enhancing the landscape, and creating residential spaces that promote comfort, quality of life, and a strong connection with nature.
